  • Luck can help you get to the next level of success, and improving your luck comes down to believing that you deserve and can achieve great things.
  • Kanye West is a great example: People like Kanye have the mental resources to be their own biggest advocates and tolerate setbacks.
  • Life is largely random, and there are often external blockers that we cannot control, but it’s actually in our best interest to overestimate how much we control, overall.
  • Once you accept that, and start thinking, “I got this. Why not me?” you may find more luck coming your way.

5 job hunting tips for when you’re already employed – BCS KANSAS

waiting for a job interview

  • It can be tricky to job hunt while still juggling a full-time job.
  • New grads commonly work a day job to pay the rent while searching for their ideal job.
  • Being honest about your situation, leaving openings in your schedule for interviews, and selectively using your vacation days can help you balance the job search with your current job.

With the unemployment rate down, especially among female job seekers, now may be a good time to look for new employment. For fresh grads particularly, working a day job to pay the rent while you look for the first gig to jumpstart your career is pretty common.

People who already have work may have a greater advantage since, unfortunately, the labor myth holds true: Economists from Columbia University and the Federal Reserve banks of Chicago and New York found that people who already have jobs tend to have an easier time getting new ones.

In light of these differences, looking for a job when you already have one seems relative cakewalk, until you consider other kinds of difficulties — namely, juggling regular work with pursuing new opportunities. Etiquette and maneuvering are definitely required to make this work successfully, without burning bridges on the side. Here are a few tips for those who are working a day job while looking for the dream.

  • Résumés are a crucial part of any job search.
  • If you want to land your dream job, you’ll need to whip your résumé into shape.
  • Résumé Writers’ Ink founder Tina Nicolai shared some tips on how to go about doing that with Business Insider.

Résumés are important.

No one knows that better than Tina Nicolai. She estimated that she has read more than 40,000 résumés since launching Résumé Writers’ Ink in 2010.

That’s a lot of CVs. Over the years, Nicolai says, certain annoying mistakes tend to come up quite a lot.

Some of these errors may not seem like a huge deal. In a competitive job market, though, they might be the difference from snagging your dream job and having your résumé thrown in the garbage.

Here are Nicolai’s picks for the most annoying mistakes you can make on a résumé:

new job

  • new job might be on your horizon if you’re in a position that isn’t helping you grow.
  • Susie Moore, a life coach who helps others create the lives they want, shares a few other signs that it’s time to look for a new job — or side-hustle.
  • If you’re constantly irritable, and you’ve been thinking about a new job for a long time, it might be worth making the change.
  • Moore also says you should find work that aligns with what interests and motivates you.

Hate your boss? Feel like your potential is making a mockery of you? Not engaged at all in your work? You’re not alone. Hating a job is one of the most common complaints I hear as a coach.

It manifests in all kinds of sneaky ways too — like low physical energy (a significant symptom that you’re uninspired). Even self-medicating — in the form of alcohol, overeating, or overspending — is common. These cheap forms of borrowed happiness may give us momentary respite, but the larger issue remains: You’re not happy, and it might be time for a change.

Here are four additional signs that it’s time for to look for a new job— or side gig.
