This week I’ve been conducting job interviews to hire a summer intern for the equity-trading group of a large financial firm. As an interviewer, I am trying to find out three things: Can you do the job? Will you love the job? Will we like you?
Here are a few tips from what I’ve seen this week.
1. Have an idea of what the job is.
Read over the job description; Google search the job; ask friends in similar positions; understand what the company does and how it makes money
2. Know why you want to work for the organization.
“I need money” is not a good answer. Think about how your skill set aligns with the position and how you will add value.
3. Don’t lie on your resume.
